Following the departure of Patrick Vieira by mutual consent last Friday, Racing Club de Strasbourg have moved to appoint a new manager, continuing what has been a busy offseason for the Alsatians. Having previously signed winger Óscar Perea and midfielder Pape Diong for their squad, club president Marc Keller this afternoon announced Liam Rosenior would take charge of a side that finished thirteenth last season.
Born in London, the son of Leroy Rosenior, himself a decorated footballer, Liam made more than 400 appearances as a professional, playing largely as a fullback. He featured for clubs such as Fulham, Hull City, Reading and Brighton & Hove Albion, playing mostly in England's top two divisions. Following his retirement as a player in 2018, he took charge of Brighton's U-23s, before joining Philip Cocu's staff as an assistant at Derby.
After working with the Rams for parts of four seasons, including an interim spell in charge of the first team, he would take permanent charge of Hull in November of 2022. Last season, he led the Tigers to seventh place and was shortlisted for the EFL Championship Manager of the Year, but was let go by club ownership owing to a clash over playing style.

Now, having signed with Racing on a three-year contract, Rosenior is eager to meet a new challenge. Speaking to the club's website, he said, “I am happy to join Racing, a historic French club, with supporters renowned for their passion and loyalty. I will do everything to make La Meinau proud of its team and its players. I can’t wait to get to work.”
Remarking on the appointment, Keller underscored Rosenior's ability to help develop talent, something that will surely be key for one of Ligue 1's youngest sides. "We are pleased to welcome Liam, a young coach recognized for his ability to make his teams play well and to help his players develop. His arrival will allow Racing to continue to grow. We welcome him to Alsace.”
