NUAMAH JOINS LYON PERMANENTLY

After an enterprising season in which he played for Olympique Lyonnais on loan fom their sister club, RWD Molenbeek, Ghanaian international winger Ernest Nuamah has joined the Rhône club permanently. A product of the Ghanian Right To Dream Academy, the twenty-year-old Nuamah arrived in Europe in 2022, playing for the Danish side Nordsjaelland. After winning the Danish Young Player of the Year and Player of the Year in the 2022/23 season, he joined Molenbeek, who were playing the top flight of Belgium, before being loaned to Lyon for the entirety of last season.

With Les Gones, he played 29 matches, scoring three goals and adding two assists and helping the team to a sixth-place finish and a spot in the UEFA Europa League. He now joins the club for a transfer fee of €28.5M, on a contract through 2028. For Ghana, in addition to playing in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, he has featured a dozen times, scoring three goals. 

Lyon also announced that Croatian international defender Duje Caleta-Car's purchase option has been activated from Southampton. Having previously played in Ligue 1 with Olympique de Marseille, he joins the club after appearing two dozen times in Ligue 1 last season, as well as helping OL reach the final of the Coupe de France. Now with the club permanently, he has signed a contract through 2027 and will be a key part of a rebuilt defence including Moussa Niakhaté and Abner Vincius.

CRESSWELL TO TOULOUSE

Toulouse FC have made their first signing of the summer mercato, adding English defender Charlie Cresswell from Leeds United. The 21-year-old Cresswell spent last season with Leeds as they won promotion, but first made his name with Millwall in the prvious season, playing more than thirty matches and becoming a rtegular for England at Under-21 level. Now, he joins Les Violets on a four-year deal, for a fee of €4.5M where he'll hope to help Carles Martínez Novell's side improve on last season's 11th place finish.
