The 2024 Copa América is heating up as we head into the semifinals. On Tuesday, Argentina will take on Canada, followed by Colombia versus Uruguay on Wednesday. Here’s a preview of the upcoming matches.
Argentina vs. Canada
It's a rematch of the group stage contest in which La Albiceleste secured a 2-0 win to open the Copa América last month. Argentina topped Group A with victories over Chile and Peru, while Canada secured a win against Peru and drew with Chile.
In the quarterfinals, the reigning Copa América champions secured a win over Ecuador via the penalty kick shootout. Canada also went to the penalty kick shootout as they advanced past Venezuela with Olympique de Marseille's Ismaël Koné scoring the game-clinching shot.
Argentina will have former Paris Saint-Germain players Lionel Messi, Ángel Di María, Leandro Paredes, and Giovani Lo Celso in their lineup while Nicolás Tagliafico from Olympique Lyonnais has started in the last three matches for manager Lionel Scaloni.
Jesse Marsch will count on LOSC Lille's Jonathan David and Koné, who officially joined Marseille on July 3. Canada looks to continue their impressive run in this tournament by making it to the final in Miami.
Colombia vs. Uruguay
The Colombian squad under manager Néstor Lorenzo secured wins over Costa Rica and Paraguay while drawing with Brazil in the group stage. In the quarterfinals, Colombia cruised past Panama with a 5-0 win after a goal and two assists from former AS Monaco standout James Rodríguez.
Rodríguez has been one of the top players at this tournament, starting all four games so far for Colombia while recording one goal and five assists for Los Cafeteros. On the other side, PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte is a key player for Uruguay, who won all three group stage matches against Panama, Bolivia, and the United States.
