The historic Tournoi Maurice Revello (previously known as the Toulon Tournament) kicked off this week, as France got underway their first game of the tournament in Fos-sur-Mer against Saudi Arabia. Paris Saint-Germain youngster Senny Maylulu was finally not present for the match, but his teammate Ibrahim Mbaye started on the wing with Nantes' Louis Leroux starting in midfield.
Les Bleuets are hoping to win as the hosts for the first time since 2022, and got underway with a 2-1 win over a Saudi side which initially went ahead after Abdullah Radif picked up on a mistake from Lyon goalkeeper Justin Bengui after a long-ball through the defence and slotted into an open net (22').
The Saudis led for the rest of the first half, and it would take until Khalid Abdullah Saeed Al Asiri's foul in the box for the referee to point to the penalty spot. Cercle Brugge's Steve Ngoura stepped up to convert as Les Bleuts got level just following the hour mark (64'). France had mostly dominated possession of the ball at 60%, and were getting into their attacking groove. It would only take a few minutes for Les Bleuets to get in front.
Elyaz Zidane was the talk of the town as the son of the former France captain started the historic tournament in the South of France as a centre back in a back three. The Real Betis centre back rose highest from a late corner to connect with a power header to put Les Bleuets in front (67') and seal their first win in the 2025 edition of the Tournoi Maurice Revello.
France will face Panama next up in Avignon on Friday (17:30 CET).
