Recap: Osame Sahraoui's Brace Fuels Lille to Win Over ASSE

LOSC Lille scored four unanswered goals in their 4-1 win over Saint-Étienne on Saturday night at Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

ASSE opened the scoring less than 10 minutes into the contest to take a 1-0 lead over Lille courtesy of a penalty kick shot. Zuriko Davitashvili made a run down the left, cutting inside into the middle.

He entered the box and tried to pass between Bafodé Diakité and Rémy Cabella. Davitashvili was hooked, causing him to go down, and the referee awarded a penalty.

The Georgian stepped into the box and converted his shot in the sixth minute as Les Verts grabbed the early momentum in the match. Despite conceding the early goal, LOSC responded.

Midway through the first half, Jonathan David drew a penalty kick opportunity for Lille after the Canadian collapsed during the clash between Mickael Nade and Dylan Batubinsika.

The initial call was no penalty, but after a VAR review, the referee awarded the penalty to Les Dogues. David converted in the 32nd minute via a panenka and leveled the contest at one-all.

Lille's scoring outburst in the second half

After the goal from David and the halftime break, the scoring floodgates opened for Lille in the second half due to a Saint-Étienne mistake.

Hákon Arnar Haraldsson played a through ball forward, but he was blocked by a Saint-Étienne defender. Batubinsika stopped a clear goal-scoring opportunity and was immediately shown a red card by the referee in the 48th minute, leaving ASSE to play most of the second half with 10 men.

Lille took advantage of playing with one more man as the home side took a 2-1 lead in the 63rd minute. On a quick Lille counterattack, Haraldsson sent David racing down the right.

The Canadian outpaced Yunis Abdelhamid, charged into the box, deceived Gautier Larsonneur, and slid the ball through Appiah's legs. Osame Sahraoui, who came off the bench in the 46th minute, was there to tap it into the net for the second Lille goal, but the scoring didn't stop there.

For Lille's third goal, after a great team effort and chaos in the Saint-Étienne box, Gabriel Gudmundsson pounced on the loose ball and fired it in just under the bar at the near post.

Lille scored a fourth unanswered goal when Sahraoui, served by Mitchel Bakker, took out the defender with a perfectly controlled touch in the box and placed the ball into the near post to net his second of the night.

After the win, Sahraoui spoke to DAZN about his performance and spotlighted an impressive week for the club.

"It’s been a dream week, really. A fantastic one, in fact! There have been so many emotions, and we’ve made history for the club. It feels great to get the three points against Feyenoord and to follow that up tonight [against Saint-Étienne]. Now, though, we’ve got some crucial matches ahead, and we need to keep winning."

The Stat: 3

After scoring a brace against ASSE, Sahraoui has found the net in his last three matches for Lille in official competitions.
