The top scorer race in Ligue 1 McDonald's is turning into a four-player affair midway through the 2024-25 season after Ousmane Dembélé recorded a brace in Paris Saint-Germain's 2-1 win over AS Saint-Étienne on Sunday night at the Parc des Princes.
Let's take a look at the four contenders who are battling for the top scorer crown and four honorable mentions who are within striking distance of joining the race.
The first PSG player in the hunt to win top scorer in Ligue 1 McDonald's this season is Bradley Barcola. After the departure of Kylian Mbappé, PSG counted on the 22-year-old to help replace the goal-scoring production, which he did early in the season.
Barcola scored 10 goals in his first 11 matches, but since then, he's struggled to find the back of the net, with his last goal coming on November 9 against Toulouse FC, where he netted a brace. Despite this cold streak, the PSG standout only trails by one goal in the Ligue 1 McDonald's top scorer race.
While Barcola is struggling, Dembélé is in great form, propelling him into the race for the league's top scorer this season. The 27-year-old had five goals in his first 13 matches in Ligue 1 McDonald's. In his last three Ligue 1 McDonald's appearances, he's matched that total, scoring five goals, including back-to-back braces against AS Monaco and ASSE.
The LOSC Lille standout struggled out of the gate with one goal in his first league matches, but then David hit a hot streak. The Canadian scored six goals in six contests following the slow start to the campaign, and in his last five games, David has scored four goals to be a co-leader in the goal-scoring race.
The former Manchester United youth academy player started his OM career by scoring five goals in his first three matches. Greenwood did go scoreless in four straight matches, but he's since gone on another goal-scoring hot streak as he's scored six goals in his last 10 games for Marseille, which has helped the squad reach second place in the Ligue 1 McDonald's table.
OGC Nice's Evann Guessand and his eight goals have led the attack for Le Gym who are battling for an automatic UEFA Champions League berth for next season. Tied with Guessand with eight goals is Stade Rennais' Arnaud Kalimuendo, who scored this past weekend in the loss to Olympique de Marseille.
Stade de Reims' Keito Nakamura has scored seven goals and, at one point, scored in five straight Ligue 1 McDonald's matches. However, the Japan native has been on a bit of a cold streak of late, scoring just two goals in his last nine games following that hot streak.
Tied with Nakamura with seven goals is AJ Auxerre standout Hamed Junior Traoré, who also had a hot streak early in the season, scoring six goals in eight matches. Since that run, Traoré has only scored one goal in his last four contests.
