In Sunday’s Ligue 1 multiplex time slot, Toulouse FC, Montpellier Hérault SC, and Stade de Reims each picked up three crucial points and scored at least two goals in their victories. Missed the action? Here’s a quick recap.
Rennes parted ways with former manager Julien Stéphan this week, but the managerial change wasn’t enough to wake up Les Rouge et Noirs, who fell 2-0 at Roazhon Park. Toulouse did all their damage in the first half as Les Violets scored two goals in a span of nine minutes to secure the victory.
Joshua King opened the scoring with a goal in the 14th minute and Aron Dønnum added the squad’s second goal in the 23rd minute to ensure the victory. The win also allows Toulouse to extend their unbeaten streak to four matches (three wins and one draw) as the impressive run now has the club within striking distance of a European competition spot for next season.
In the middle of a relegation battle, Montpellier secured a win at Stade de la Mosson to snap their five-match losing streak. The home side scored two goals early in the first half with Arnaud Nordin opening the scoring in the sixth minute and Wahbi Khazri adding the second goal in the 12th minute.
Brest showed plenty of fight in the match, with Jonas Martin finding the net in the 50th minute to narrow the gap. Rather than concede the game-tying goal, Montpellier added the vital insurance goal in the 84th minute thanks to Tanguy Coulibaly to secure the home win.
The win at Stade Océane allowed Reims to snap their three-match losing streak and keep themselves in the race for a European competition spot for next season despite their recent struggles. Oumar Diakité opened the scoring for the visitors in the 15th minute, and then Reims’ Japanese duo made their presence known in the match.
Keito Nakamura scored in the 21st minute to make the contest 2-0, and then, in the second half, Junya Ito added the third goal to put the game out of hand and allow Reims to secure all three points.
