Recap: Romain Faivre Fuels Brest Win Over Reims

Stade Brestois have had an impressive week as they secured an impressive 1-1 draw against reigning Bundesliga champions Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the UEFA Champions League this week, and on Saturday at Stade Auguste-Delaune, Les Pirates recorded a 2-1 victory against Stade de Reims.

Brest entered this match looking to climb the Ligue 1 table to get themselves back into contention for a European competition spot for next season. On the other side, Reims are one of the surprise teams this campaign as they're a serious contender to play a European competition in the 2025-26 season.

The Brest attack got off to a fantastic start with a goal in the fourth minute thanks to Romain Faivre. Brest didn't waste time adding to their lead as Faivre would be involved in the second goal, providing an assist to Mama Baldé, who made it 2-0 in the 14th minute.

Reims responded in the 29th minute to cut the deficit to one goal after a strike from Joseph Okumu made the scoreline 2-1. After a challenging start for the home side, they took positive momentum into halftime.

In the final 45 minutes, Reims generated five total shots but couldn't find the equalizing goal while the visitors held onto their advantage. Brest also recorded seven total shots in the second half but struggled to find that insurance goal.

After two matches without a victory across all competitions, Brest rediscovered its winning form. Éric Roy and his team climbed to 8th place with 13 points thanks to this away result, just behind Reims, who are in 6th with 14 points.

Reims has suffered a second consecutive defeat for the first time this season, so it's the first test of adversity this team is facing.

Luka Elsner and his team must respond next weekend against Toulouse FC to stay within one of the European competition spots for next season and continue their impressive campaign. As for Brest, they'll welcome OGC Nice to the Stade Francis Le Blé next weekend for an exciting clash.
