Recap: OM’s offense explodes for five goals against Montpellier

Olympique de Marseille's fantastic offensive output earned them a 5-0 win over Montpellier Hérault SC on Sunday night at Stade de la Mosson.

Elye Wahi began the goal-scoring fest with a strike in the first minute that found the back of the net for a 1-0 win. OM added two more goals in the first half with a goal from Amine Harit in the 36th minute, and then four minutes later, Pierre-Emile Højbjerg added Marseille's third goal.

The away side took a 3-0 lead into halftime and the scoring didn't stop once the ball got rolling for the final 45 minutes. Mason Greenwood scored in the 58th minute to make it 4-0, and Luis Henrique added the fifth OM goal in the 73rd minute as Marseille took a 5-0 win.

Marseille's road win snapped a two-match winless streak heading into next week's Le Classique against Paris Saint-Germain. After the match, OM manager Roberto De Zerbi spoke to the media at his press conference and shared his thoughts on his squad's performance.

"A perfect match? No, we're still a work in progress. We're building our style of play, defensive structure, mentality, and consistency in that approach. But honestly, we have a really strong team."

"Sometimes I look at the players and feel proud to have such a talented group. There's still plenty to improve, but we’ve got great people and quality players. When you combine strong character with a real desire to get involved, you end up getting results."

Wahi got the goal-scoring started for OM and De Zerbi praised the young No. 9 for the preparation he put into this weekend's match.

"He had a great week of training, and performances on Sunday usually reflect that. He’s got incredible talent and potential that you don’t see in many No. 9s. Not many are as well-rounded as he is. What he needs most is confidence, and I hope this performance—not just his goal—helps him build that."

"We’ve got to support him because he’s a real asset for the club. And at just 21, he’s got the potential to be a big player not just for Olympique Marseille, but for all of France."
