Preview: Lille vs Slavia Prague, Les Dogues hunting UCL qualification

Will Valenciennes's Stade du Hainaut prove to be another happy hunting ground for Les Dogues? Lille are looking to capitalise on (not so much) home advantage over Slavia Prague in the UEFA Champions League play-offs after managing to knock out Turkish giants Fernabaçhe in the previous round (3-2 on aggregate).

Lille face Slavia Prague in the UEFA Champions League play-offs this evening (21:00 CET) hoping to edge ever-closer to group stage qualification.

Leading by one goal from the first leg, LOSC managed to edge through the tie at the end of extra time thanks to Jonathan David's dramatic 118th-minute winner. After missing out on the podium spot in Ligue 1 last season, Bruno Génésio's side are just two games away from making the group phase of the UEFA Champions League for the first time in three years. Both clubs met 15 years ago in the Europa League group stage, which saw Les Dogues win 3-1 and 5-1 in two convincing group matches.

Bruno Génésio remains level-headed

Lille manager Bruno Génésio was wary of his side getting too ahead of itself before the first leg against the Czech side. "It would be a mistake to get over-excited. We're very motivated, even more so than before, but we shouldn't get excited because that often leads to things that aren't good for getting a result. The big mistake would be to think that we've already qualified because we beat Fener," said the Frenchman in his pre-match press conference.

"We haven't done anything yet, we're only halfway through and there's still the other half to go. We're up against a different team to Fenerbahce, but one that's going to be just as tough to beat."

Two likely changes for Les Dogues

Bruno Génésio will likely need to make two key changes going into the game against Slavia, as Aissa Mandi serves a suspension for a sending off against Fenerbahce. Meanwhile, Angel Gomes will be out of action after suffering a serious head injury against Reims this weekend.

LOSC Lille likely starting XI: Chevalier; Meunier, Diakite, Alexsandro, Gudmundsson; Santos, Mukau, Andre; Cabella, Haraldsson; David.
