Filipe Luis: In the Footsteps of Arsène Wenger

Filipe Luis has made a perfect start to life at AS Monaco, the club currently sitting atop the Ligue 1 McDonald’s standings after qualifying for the UEFA Conference League’s league phase.

Four wins from four competitive matches

By defeating OM in the final match of Matchday 2 of Ligue 1 McDonald’s (2–0), the Monaco coach has led the Principality to victory in their first four matches of the season across all competitions: two in the UEFA Europa Conference League and two in Ligue 1 McDonald’s.

This is a feat not seen in the Principality since the 1991–92 season, when the club was under the guidance of a certain Arsène Wenger. Thirty-five years ago, the Monegasque side finished the season in second place and reached the finals of both the Cup Winners' Cup and the Coupe de France…

Monaco Stands Alone at the Top

While it remains to be seen if the team can match last season's performance, AS Monaco has claimed the top spot in the standings, becoming the only side to record two wins in the first two matchdays of Ligue 1 McDonald’s.

This marks the first time a single team has achieved this feat since Grenoble in the 2008/09 season. It puts the Principality club in the top spot for the first time since Matchday 5 of the previous campaign.

Filipe Luis is thus enjoying a smooth start to his time at AS Monaco. Before delivering an 11th victory for AS Monaco in their last 15 home matches against OM, the Brazilian had helped the club qualify for the Conference League league phase with a comprehensive win over Polish side Górnik Zarbze.
