Meet Genesis Antwi, Racing’s newest prospect
Strasbourg have turned to the Chelsea academy once more, signing Genesis Antwi on loan for the duration of the 2026/27 campaign.
The 19-year-old arrives in Alsace seeking the regular senior football that has proved difficult to find at Stamford Bridge. Antwi has nevertheless already appeared twice for Chelsea’s first team, while his performances at academy level have marked him out as one of Cobham’s more intriguing defensive prospects.
From Stockholm to Stamford Bridge
Born in Stockholm on 11 May 2007, Antwi moved to England with his family at the age of seven. His older brother, Sinatra, had been invited to join Crystal Palace’s academy, prompting the family to relocate to London.
It was ultimately Genesis who made the greater progress in English football. He entered the Chelsea academy at Under-12 level and began playing Under-18 football while he was still a schoolboy, gradually establishing himself as a full-back capable of operating on either side of the defence.
Antwi made 19 appearances for Chelsea’s Under-18s during the 2024/25 season before stepping up to the Under-21 side, where he featured another 12 times. His development was rewarded in March 2025 when he replaced Pedro Neto during a UEFA Conference League victory over FC Copenhagen.
A second appearance followed in the semi-final against Djurgården, making Antwi the first Swedish player to represent Chelsea in a competitive first-team match. He later signed a new contract running until 2028, with the option of two further years.
The defender has also progressed through Sweden’s youth teams, representing the country at Under-17 and Under-19 level before making the step up to the Under-21 side.
What can Antwi bring to Strasbourg?
Antwi is primarily a right-back, although limiting him to one position would overlook much of his appeal. Chelsea have also used him at left-back, wing-back and on either wing.
Standing at 1.89m, he combines an imposing frame with the acceleration required to carry the ball down the touchline. He is comfortable driving forward from deep, taking on an opposing full-back and arriving in the final third rather than simply remaining behind the play.
His attacking output has also improved as he has moved through Chelsea’s academy. Antwi scored and provided an assist against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Youth League, while he became a regular in the Under-21 team that finished top of the Premier League 2 league phase last season.
“Defending comes first, of course, but helping the team in attack is something I’ve been focused on,” he explained during the campaign.
Strasbourg will represent his first extended experience of senior football. Antwi remains a raw prospect rather than a finished Ligue 1 player, but his versatility, athleticism and willingness to attack space give Racing another exciting option on the right.
After more than seven years progressing through Chelsea’s academy, the Swedish youngster now has the opportunity to show that he is ready for the next stage.
