World Cup: The Ligue 1 Team of the Tournament

With the curtain having come down on the 2026 World Cup, the Ligue 1 McDonald's team has selected its own all-tournament team, comprised of stars from France's top flight.

Goalkeeper: Lionel Mpasi, Le Havre/DR Congo

Despite not being a regular start for Le Club Doyenne, Mpasi continues to shine for the Leopards. After a strong display at AFCON earlier this year, he turned in a series of standout displays to help DR Congo advance to the Round of 32, including making eight saves in a draw against Portugal and impressing against England despite a loss.

Defence: Achraf Hakimi, Paris Saint-Germain/Morocco; Denis Zakaria, AS Monaco/Switzerland; Facundo Medina, Olympique de Marseille/Argentina; Nuno Mendes, Paris Saint-Germain/Portugal

While not a traditional back four by position, this quartet of players all impressed, much as they had in Ligue 1 this season. Hakimi played every minute as the Atlas Lions reached the quarterfinals, scoring once and adding two assists. Mendes will be disappointed to have exited the tournament through injury, but his incisive running was key in Portugal's progress, including turning in a Man of the Match display against Croatia in the Round of 32. Zakaria, meanwhile, was a revelation at right back for the Swiss, who reached the quarterfinals for the first time in 70 years, showing his versatility as he had done for the Principality side this season. As for Medina, while he lost his place to Nicolás Tagliafico, his imperious play in the group stage was vital to the Albiceleste's progress.

Midfield: Fabián Ruiz, Paris Saint-Germain/Spain; Ayyoub Bouaddi, LOSC/Morocco

There's little question of Ruiz's deserving a place in this side. Somewhat of an afterthought after missing a large stretch of the season through injury, he regained his form to the extent that he kept the likes of Pedri and Gavi out of the team, forming an impressive double pivot with Rodri as Spain set a record for defensive solidity. As for Bouaddi, the teenager was the tournament's breakout star, showing off his ball-carrying skills and workrate with aplomb as the Atlas Lions were once again the toast of the tournament.

Forwards: Ousmane Dembélé, Paris Saint-Germain/France; Julio Enciso, RC Strasbourg/Paraguay; Desiré Doué, Paris Saint-Germain/France; Folarin Balogun, AS Monaco/United States

With six goals and two assists, including an impressive hat trick against Norway, Dembélé was one of the tournament's best attackers full stop, affirming his status as the reigning Ballon d'Or winner. His PSG teammate Doué didn't start every match for France, but was decisive in coming on, adding balance to the side with his play on the ball. Enciso, for his part, helped lead Paraguay to a historic place in the Round of 16 by being involved in every goal that his country scored, while Balogun scored three times in four starts as a solid presence in attack for the hosts.
