Paris FC have made the signing of Diego Coppola, who spent the second half of last season on loan in the French capital, permanent. Who is the Italy international who will look to assert himself as a key pillar of Liam Rosenior's defence?
Coppola came through at his hometown club, Hellas Verona. It was a linear progression from the centre-back, from the academy and into the first-team. It was in the 2024/25 season that he distinguished himself as one of the most promising centre-backs in Italy.
And naturally, the defender, who idolised former AS Monaco midfielder Yaya Touré in his youth, was quickly spotted by Premier League scouts. It was Brighton, known for their extensive scouting network and intelligence in the market, who got a deal done for a little over €11m.
The Seagulls showed their interest in June 2025, the same month that Coppola made his debut for Italy. Everything was moving very fast for the defender, but, having played for the national team twice in June 2025, he has not featured since.
This is where Coppola's progression becomes slightly less linear. The Italian would make just nine appearances for Brighton in his first few months on the South Coast of England.
There was no presumptuousness on Coppola's part; he was willing to play the waiting game. "I will get chances and when I do, I will do well," he said back in August.
Those chances, however, would not come at Brighton, but in Paris. An ambitious project is being steadily constructed by the Arnault family at the Stade Jean Bouin and Coppola became a piece of it in January.
The former Hellas Verona defender initially joined on loan. He quickly asserted himself as a starter, firstly under Stéphane Gilli, and when he left in February, he remained a starter under Antoine Kombouaré. Copoola remained a regular as Les Parisiens' form drastically improved and the club went from being mired in a relegation battle for a comfortable mid-table finish.
Coming into the summer, however, his future was uncertain. His loan was up, but, convinced by his qualities, Paris FC did their utmost to retain him, and struck a deal.
His return has delighted Paris FC sporting director, Marco Neppe. "We are very happy to have Diego back after his stint at the club last season," he began.

"[We are] very proud, through this permanent transfer, to make Diego a Paris FC player. These past months, Diego has shown the whole range of his qualities and how much he could bring to this team. His commitment, his exemplary professionalism, and his perfect integration into the dressing room were impressive. It says a lot about his personality. It is rare that all of these qualities are aligned, as a footballer and as a person. Diego's return to Paris FC is great news," he added.
After a blip at the start of last season, Coppola has got his career back on track at Paris FC, and, having signed a contract until 2031, he will look to continue his upward trajectory.
