Although the title race has already been decided, the final round of the Ligue 2 BKT season still carries huge significance with battles for automatic promotion, the Play-Off spots, and the relegation play-off all still unresolved.

Race for promotion: Who will finish second?

Three clubs are still in contention for the second automatic promotion place behind the champions.

Le Mans FC (59 points) will finish second if:

  • They win away at Bastia
  • AS Saint-Étienne and Red Star both fail to win
  • They draw and Saint-Étienne either win by a one-goal margin against Amiens or also draw

AS Saint-Étienne (57 points) will finish second if:

  • They beat Amiens and Le Mans lose at Bastia
  • They beat Amiens by more than one goal and Le Mans draw at Bastia

Red Star FC (57 points) will finish second if:

  • They beat Montpellier
  • Le Mans lose at Bastia
  • Saint-Étienne fail to beat Amiens

Stat: Each of the last 11 teams to occupy second place before the final matchday have successfully held onto automatic promotion. The last exception came in 2013/14, when SM Caen dropped from second to third on the final day.

Play-Off race: Six clubs still involved

While three teams can still dream of automatic promotion, six sides remain in contention for the Play-Off places heading into Matchday 34.

As things stand, AS Saint-Étienne (3rd), Red Star FC (4th), and Rodez AF (5th) occupy the qualifying positions.

Saint-Étienne

Although the Verts could still earn direct promotion, they could also slip as low as fifth. If Saint-Étienne lose to Amiens, they could finish fifth provided Red Star avoid defeat against Montpellier and Rodez win away at Annecy.

If Saint-Étienne draw, they would still have to go through the Play-Offs should Red Star win.

Red Star FC

Level on points with Saint-Étienne but with an inferior goal difference (+8 compared to +16), Red Star can still claim third place if they achieve a better result than the Verts on the final day.

A draw could be enough if Saint-Étienne lose, but only if Rodez do not win by more than three goals while also overturning Red Star’s superior goals scored tally.

Otherwise, the Audoniens are guaranteed at least a Play-Off 1 place and cannot finish lower than fifth.

Rodez AF

Rodez can still climb all the way to third if both Saint-Étienne and Red Star lose and they win at Annecy.

Currently fifth, Rodez will secure at least that position if they win on Matchday 34 or if they draw and Reims fail to beat Pau.

Stade de Reims

Sixth-placed Reims need Rodez to slip up in order to snatch fifth place and qualify for Play-Off 1.

Thanks to a significantly better goal difference (+16 compared to +5), Reims would move ahead of Rodez if they beat Pau and Rodez fail to win.

FC Annecy

Annecy can still upset the odds and sneak into the Play-Offs.

To do so, they must beat Rodez at home and hope Reims fail to defeat Pau.

Relegation play-off battle: A long-distance duel

At the bottom of the table, Amiens have already been relegated, while Clermont and Nancy are safe.

However, the second relegation spot remains undecided between SC Bastia (17th) and Laval (16th).

The side that avoids automatic relegation will instead enter a relegation/promotion play-off against the team finishing third in the Championnat National.

Laval currently hold a one-point advantage ahead of the final day, with the Tango facing Boulogne while Bastia host Le Mans.

Because Bastia possess a superior goal difference (-14 compared to Laval’s -19), the Corsican side would climb into 16th place with a draw if Laval lose.
