Olivier Pantaloni is set to leave FC Lorient at the end of the season

The club announced on Wednesday that Pantaloni declined a contract extension, despite what they described as a competitive two-year offer reflecting both his results and commitment.

A successful cycle comes to a close

Appointed in 2024 following relegation, Pantaloni immediately delivered on expectations, guiding FC Lorient back to the top flight at the first attempt during the 2024/25 campaign.

This season, the Merlus have comfortably secured their Ligue 1 status, currently sitting mid-table (9th).

Lorient acknowledged his impact in their official statement, highlighting his “major role” in both promotion and consolidation at the top level. Lorient confirmed that a two-year contract extension had been proposed, reflecting both results and continuity.

However, after several rounds of discussions, Pantaloni chose not to accept the offer, with the club stating it “respects but regrets” his decision.

For his part, Pantaloni struck a reflective tone, emphasising that “money was never the driving factor” in an interview with Ouest-France and insisting his decision was rooted in working conditions rather than financial terms.

While his departure is now confirmed, the club have reiterated their full confidence in Pantaloni to oversee the final stretch of the campaign.
