Lille take their revenge in the Derby du Nord with a 3-0 win over Lens

LOSC Lille produced a commanding display to defeat RC Lens 3-0 in the Derby du Nord, reaffirming their credentials in the race for Champions League qualification while leaving their rivals chasing shadows for much of the evening.

The match was disrupted by crowd-related incidents and lacked sustained fluidity, but that did little to halt Lille’s control. Bruno Génésio’s side dominated possession and territory throughout, limiting Lens to very few clear opportunities and asserting themselves physically and technically from the outset.

The breakthrough came just before the interval, when Matias Fernandez-Pardo exploited space in behind before teeing up Hakon Haraldsson, who finished calmly into an open net (44’).

Lille carried that momentum into the second half and struck again almost immediately. Félix Correia capitalised on a defensive error from Mathieu Udol, rounding Robin Risser before slotting home to double the lead (49’). The Portuguese winger nearly added a second soon after, only to be denied in a one-on-one by Risser.

In response, Pierre Sage turned to his bench, introducing Allan Saint-Maximin in an attempt to spark a reaction. However, Lens continued to struggle, unable to gain any foothold as Lille’s intensity remained relentless.

The game was effectively put to bed just before the hour mark. A handball from Ismael Ganiou, judged to be in an unnatural position, saw referee François Letexier point to the spot without hesitation. Fernandez-Pardo stepped up and confidently dispatched the penalty, sending Risser the wrong way to make it 3-0 (58’).

From there, Lille managed the contest with authority. Lens, despite late attacking changes and brief flashes through Saint-Maximin and Florian Thauvin, never truly threatened a comeback, their performance lacking both cohesion and cutting edge.

THE STAT:

This was LOSC Lille’s 48th official victory over RC Lens, making Lens the team Lille have beaten most in their history, ahead of Stade Rennais FC (47).
