Paris FC’s improving defensive organisation was on display again on Sunday as they earned a 0-0 draw away to RC Strasbourg Alsace, with Diego Coppola and Moustapha Mbow forming an increasingly reliable central defensive partnership. The stalemate represented Paris FC’s second clean sheet in three matches since Antoine Kombouaré's arrival as manager.
The 22-year-old joined Paris FC on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion during the January transfer window, with sporting director Marco Neppe revealing that the club had fought off “fierce competition” for the defender’s signature.
Despite reported interest from clubs in Italy — including AC Milan — Coppola chose the Parisian project, seeing it as an opportunity to gain regular playing time in one of Europe’s top leagues.
Before arriving in France, Coppola built his reputation in Italy with Hellas Verona, the club where he developed through the academy.
A tall and physically imposing defender at 1.93 metres, Coppola made his senior debut as a teenager and gradually became part of Verona’s defensive rotation in Serie A. His strengths quickly became clear: dominance in aerial duels, composure under pressure and a calm presence in possession.
These qualities attracted attention from several European clubs and eventually led to his move to the Premier League with Brighton, a club renowned for developing young talent. However, with competition for places high on the south coast, a loan spell became the ideal solution for Coppola to continue his development.

Since arriving in the French capital, Coppola has progressively found his rhythm. Paris FC recently earned a 0-0 draw away at RC Strasbourg Alsace, their second clean sheet in three matches. The Italian has formed a promising partnership with Moustapha Mbow, despite the pair only recently beginning to play together.
Just eight days earlier, the promoted side had come close to another shutout in a 1-1 draw away at Olympique Lyonnais, only conceding in the sixth minute of stoppage time from a penalty.
“We talk a lot on the pitch. It’s good to play with him, he understands what I want and vice versa,” Coppola explained after the match. Against Strasbourg, he produced a commanding performance, particularly in the air, while keeping close tabs on Racing striker Joaquín Panichelli, one of the league’s most in-form forwards with 14 goals so far this season.
“They get on well. They are like the team — solid and efficient," said Paris FC captain Pierre Lees-Melou on the blossoming new centre-back partnership. “It’s teamwork. Everyone does their part to make the defence solid. The team defends together and Kevin Trapp is less exposed," added manager Antoine Kombouré.
After collecting five points from three demanding fixtures against OGC Nice, Olympique Lyonnais, and Strasbourg, the promoted club appears to be gaining momentum in its fight to remain in Ligue 1.

Paris FC have taken five points from their last three matches, including a 1-0 win over OGC Nice and the draws against Lyon and Strasbourg — a return Kombouaré admitted he would have accepted beforehand.
The next step for the promoted side will be turning defensive stability into victories. A strong performance against Le Havre AC next weekend, ideally with three points, would confirm that Paris FC’s recent improvements are more than just a brief run of form.
