rest strengthened their European hopes and Auxerre grabbed a valuable point in the relegation battle during Sunday’s Ligue 1 multiplex.
Lille kept their push for the European places alive with a last-gasp 1–0 victory over Nantes at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy. The match looked set to end goalless until Nathan Ngoy struck in the 94th minute, pouncing on a loose ball in the box and firing past Alban Lopes to seal a dramatic win.
The Dogues had struggled to break down a disciplined Nantes side for most of the afternoon, with Matias Fernandez-Pardo hitting the crossbar early in the second half and Lille enjoying the bulk of possession.
But their persistence paid off in stoppage time, giving Lille back-to-back Ligue 1 wins and allowing them to draw level on points with Marseille, who now face increased pressure in the race for European qualification. For Nantes, the defeat leaves them 17th and still firmly embroiled in the relegation battle.
Brest continued their winning run with a 1–0 victory away to Metz, even after playing most of the match with ten men. The turning point came in the 23rd minute when Abdoulaye Guindo was sent off following a dangerous challenge on Kévin Kouao.
Despite their numerical disadvantage, Brest remained organised defensively and struck in the 69th minute through Ludovic Ajorque, who controlled the ball on his chest before finishing calmly with his left foot. Metz pushed hard in the closing stages, but goalkeeper Marco Coudert produced several key saves to secure the three points.
The result deepens Metz’s crisis near the bottom of the table, while Brest continue to dream of an unlikely European qualification push.
At the Stade du Moustoir, Lorient and Auxerre played out an entertaining 2–2 draw in one of the most lively matches of the afternoon.Auxerre made a perfect start as Paul Joly Senaya scored inside the opening minute, before Lorient responded through Bamba Dieng.
The visitors regained the lead via Casimir, only for Dieng to strike again before the half-hour mark to level the match at 2–2. Both sides had chances to win it in the second half, but the score remained unchanged.
The draw is an important result for Auxerre, who retain the relegation play-off spot, while Lorient miss the chance to move closer to the European positions.
