Ousmane Dembélé delivered a performance worthy of football’s highest individual honour, inspiring Paris Saint-Germain to a stunning 5-0 victory over Olympique de Marseille in Le Classique and back to the top of Ligue 1 McDonald’s. The French international struck twice in a devastating first-half display that left Marseille powerless at the Parc des Princes.
Clinical and electric in equal measure, Dembélé opened the scoring after meeting a perfectly weighted pass from Nuno Mendes before producing a breathtaking solo goal, weaving through the OM defence and firing home with authority. It was a statement performance on one of the biggest domestic stages.
With a seventh straight Ligue 1 McDonald’s win, PSG recorded the largest victory in the history of Le Classique. The result also stands as Marseille’s heaviest defeat in all competitions since August 2017.
Paris reclaim top spot, moving two points clear of RC Lens, while OM drop to fourth, now 12 points behind the leaders.
The brace takes Dembélé to seven league goals this season and nine direct goal contributions against OM across all competitions (five goals, four assists). No club has suffered more from the winger’s brilliance throughout his career, and he has now scored three times in the Classiques this season.
After the match, the PSG forward reflected on the significance of the occasion: “The fans will wake up with a smile. We know how important this game is for Paris, and we’re happy with the work we did,” he said following the game.
