Another match, another five-goal haul. Olympique de Marseille finished off the Saturday action in Ligue 1 McDonald's with a decisive 5-2 win over hosts Angers SCO, allowing them to consolidate their hold on third place. Catch up on all the action from the Stade Raymond-Kopa with our recap.
With an eye on a crucial Champions League match against Liverpool on Wednesday at the Stade Vélodrôme, Roberto de Zerbi named a rotated side, leaving the likes of Geoffrey Kondogbia, Igor Paixão and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on the bench. The hosts were also without a key piece of their squad in the form of Himad Abdelli, who has been strongly linked with a move to their opponent on the evening.
The match started at a breakneck pace, as Marseille looked to build on the ruthless display that had seen them smash amateurs Bayeux 9-0 in the Coupe de France last weekend. Angers goalkeeper Hervé Koffi was quickly called into action in the fourth minute, making a double save to keep out Timothy Weah and then Amine Gouiri. It wouldn't take long for Gouiri to break the deadlock -- on 17 minutes, he hammered in a low cross from Amir Murillo to give his side the lead. Five minutes later, it was Mason Greenwood's turn to get on the scoresheet, as the Englishman cut inside and let fly with a powerful effort that left Koffi stranded.

Up 2-0 inside half an hour, Marseille were just getting started, and ten minutes before the break, it was Hamed Junior Traoré, a player who has struggled with injury for much of the season, who added a third. Wanting to get in on the act, Timothy Weah then scored with an unstoppable header after a brilliant team move, making it 4-0 on 40 minutes.
Angers would claw back a goal just before the break through Amine Sbaï, and battled hard in the second half but by this point the result was academic. Paixão added a fifth off the bench, and while Jim Allevinah would pull another goal back off the bench in second half injury time, Le SCO were well and truly beaten.
Marseille will now turn their attention to a pair of massive matches -- first in the week against Liverpool and then a chance to reinsert themselves in the title races as they welcome leaders RC Lens to the Vélodrôme next Saturday. As for Angers, they remain comfortably ahead of the relegation scrap but will have to keep their wits about them as they travel to the capital to face Paris FC Sunday.
Following their impressive display this evening, Marseille now top the Ligue 1 McDonald's scoring charts with 41 goals, one ahead of Paris Saint-Germain. It's also their best total through 18 rounds of play since 1971/72 (42.)
