Saint-Étienne reclaim second place

Saint-Étienne took full advantage of Red Star’s draw earlier in the day, beating Nancy 2–1 at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard on Saturday evening to climb back into second place. Irvin Cardona opened the scoring in the 27th minute, finishing a well-constructed move to give the home side control. Shortly after half-time, Florian Tardieu doubled the lead from the penalty spot (51’), seemingly putting the match out of reach. Nancy, however, kept the pressure on through Brandon Bokangu, who also converted a penalty just before the hour mark (58’). The visitors pushed late on, but Eirik Horneland’s side held firm to secure their ninth win of the season. The result lifts Saint-Étienne to 29 points—two behind leaders Troyes and one ahead of Red Star.

Red Star rescue a point at Bauer

At Stade Bauer, Red Star endured a dramatic and emotionally turbulent afternoon, but ultimately salvaged a 2–2 draw against Clermont Foot. The hosts made a sensational start, scoring inside the opening minute: Saïf-Eddine Khaoui’s clever outside-of-the-boot flick released Dembo Sylla, who squared for the in-form Damien Durand to finish clinically. Clermont responded swiftly, though. Kader Bamba equalised with a well-struck left-footed effort on 12 minutes before completing his brace in the 24th with a tidy finish after an impressive team move from the Auvergne side. Red Star pushed relentlessly in the second half, and their persistence was finally rewarded in the 86th minute when Pierre Lemonnier rose highest to head home from a set piece, earning a deserved point. Despite the comeback, the draw coupled with Saint-Étienne’s win sees the Audonians slip to third place on 28 points.

Amiens sinking deeper as Guingamp climb

Elsewhere, Amiens’ worrying run continued as they suffered a fourth consecutive defeat, losing 2–1 at home to Guingamp. Teddy Averlant had given the Picards the perfect start in the 19th minute, but Louis Mafouta overturned the scoreline with a rapid first-half double. He first equalised from the penalty spot (28’) before converting calmly five minutes later from a Donation Gomis assist (33’). The result lifts Guingamp into sixth place, offering renewed momentum heading into the winter period. On Friday evening, league leaders Troyes bounced back from their loss to Saint-Étienne by winning 1–0 at Laval, while Le Mans climbed into the top five with a 2–1 victory away at Pau.
