Auxerre and Olympique Lyonnais were unable to break the deadlock on Sunday, drawing 0–0 in a match marked by missed opportunities and strong defensive displays on both sides. Lyon began the meeting with their usual focus on possession, setting the early tempo and pushing the hosts back into their defensive block. However, Auxerre gradually grew into the game and produced a series of promising transitions that forced OL to defend deeper than anticipated.
Midway through the first half, AJA generated the clearest chance of the afternoon when Mara, active throughout, forced a foul from Niakhaté inside the area. Sinayoko took responsibility for the penalty but saw his effort turned away by Greif, who dived to his right to keep the scores level. Auxerre maintained their momentum, with further chances from Danois, Matondo and Mara, while Lyon were limited to efforts from distance and struggled to find space between the Auxerre lines.
Lyon returned with more initiative after the break, with Moreira and Tolisso testing Léon, but the Auxerre goalkeeper remained assured. At the opposite end, Greif produced another important stop to deny Sinayoko, while centre-back Mata delivered several decisive interventions, cutting out dangerous crosses and blocking shots at close range. The closing stages saw both sides push for a winner: Lyon introduced 16-year-old Hamdani for his professional debut, while Auxerre attempted to capitalise on set pieces and wide deliveries. Despite a late increase in tempo, neither team managed to find the breakthrough.
Dominik Greif became the first Lyon goalkeeper to save a penalty in Ligue 1 McDonald's since Anthony Lopes on 10 December 2023 against Toulouse’s Thijs Dallinga. It was also the Slovakian’s first penalty save in league competition since 26 September 2020 with Slovan Bratislava, against Ružomberok.
