France 1-0 Belgium
Former Paris Saint-Germain standouts Kylian Mbappé and Adrien Rabiot were in France's starting 11 for this match. Other players with ties to Ligue 1 who were part of the starting lineup were former LOSC Lille star Mike Maignan and William Saliba, who played for AS Saint-Étienne, OGC Nice, and Olympique de Marseille.
On the other hand, Belgium included several players who have played in France's top flight in its starting 11. Former Stade Rennais player Jérémy Doku, former AS Monaco star Yannick Carrasco, former RC Lens standout Loïs Openda, and former Stade de Reims defender Wout Faes were all in manager Domenico Tedesco's starting lineup.
In the first half, France's attack produced nine shots compared to Belgium's solitary attempt, yet neither side managed to break the deadlock before halftime.
The pivotal moment came late in the second half when PSG's Randal Kolo Muani, who entered the game as a substitute in the 62nd minute, saw his shot deflect off veteran defender Jan Vertonghen and into the net for an own goal. France are now through to the quarterfinals, where they'll face Portugal.
Portugal 0-0 Slovenia (3-0 on penalties)
PSG's Vitinha and Nuno Mendes were in manager Roberto Martinez's starting 11. Portugal and Slovenia played to a scoreless draw in the first 90 minutes of action, and neither side could find the back of the net in extra time.
The critical moment in the contest came when Portugal was awarded a penalty kick in the first half of extra time. Cristiano Ronaldo stepped into the box to take the shot, but Atlético de Madrid's Jan Oblak made the crucial save to keep the match scoreless.
After a tense extra time, the match moved to a penalty kick shootout where FC Porto's Diogo Costa was the star. The 24-year-old made three saves as Portugal converted their three shots to advance to the quarterfinals.
