Olympique Lyonnais came back from a goal down to leapfrog RC Strasbourg as Matchday 9 concluded in Ligue 1 McDonald's. Read on for our recap
With both sides playing on short rest, this was sure to be a ragged encounter, and so it was from the off, despite both sides playing strong elevens, even off the back of their European encounters in the week. It didn't take long for both sides to have chances, with Moussa Niakhaté making a vital block for Lyon before Mike Penders kept out a stinging effort by Pavel Sulc.
From there, Racing would take the lead with in-form Joaquín Panichelli scoring his fourth goal in three matches in all competitions, but Liam Rosenior's young side, as they have done too often this season, would let that lead slip, with a cruel own goal by Ismaël Doukouré, playing in defence. Lyon hoped to go ahead just before the break, as they'd earned a penalty, but it was kept out by Penders in dramatic fashion, leaving the game level at the interval.

After a quiet start to the second half, Doukouré's night went from bad to worse as he was sent off after a VAR review for a bad foul on Malick Fofana which saw the young Belgian stretchered off. Playing with a man advantage, and with the crowd behind them, Lyon pushed hard for a winner, but had to wait until added time as youngster Afonso Moreira found the top corner with a sublime bit of skill to seal a 2-1 win.
While Strasbourg will have little time to lick their wounds, so to will Lyon have a short window to rest on their laurels, as both sides are back in action in a midweek round on Wednesday. Lyon will head to upstarts Paris FC, while Strasbourg host Auxerre as they look to reinsert themselves into the European race.
With eighteen points from their first nine matches, Lyon have their best total at this point in a season since 2012/13.
