Nice edge Rennes as Angers and Le Havre strike crucial blows in the fight for survival

Rennes 1–2 Nice: Clauss leads by example

A turbulent evening in Brittany saw OGC Nice make the most of their first-half dominance to leave Rennes empty-handed.

After a quiet opening, Sofiane Diop broke the deadlock in style, curling home from the edge of the box after a neat cutback from Clauss (38’). Just before half-time, the Nice captain turned scorer himself, converting a loose ball to double the visitors’ advantage (45’).

Rennes, jeered off at the break, reacted through their academy prospects after coach Habib Beye made bold changes. Aït Boudlal halved the deficit midway through the second period (67’) from a set piece delivered by Przemyslaw Frankowski, but despite sustained late pressure — including a disallowed goal from Mohamed Kader Meïté in stoppage time — the hosts could not find an equaliser.

Nice climb provisionally into the top half, while Rennes’ mixed start to the season continues.

Angers 2–0 Lorient: SCO spring back to life

At the Stade Raymond-Kopa, Angers SCO recorded just their second win of the campaign with a deserved 2-0 success over FC Lorient.

Young forward Prosper Peter opened the scoring after 16 minutes before later limping off injured, but his replacement Sidiki Chérif made sure of the result after the break (59’). Lorient’s Tosin Aiyegun missed a first-half penalty, denied by an inspired Hervé Koffi, as Alexandre Dujeux’s men controlled proceedings from start to finish.

Auxerre 0–1 Le Havre: Digard’s men make their mark

Le Havre AC produced the shock of the afternoon, claiming all three points away to AJ Auxerre. A tight encounter was decided shortly after half-time when Abdoulaye Touré finished calmly at the far post (47’). Despite late pressure and a VAR check for handball, Didier Digard’s side held on to earn a valuable victory — their first on the road this season — lifting them clear of the relegation zone.
