The France U21s made the perfect start to their Euro 2027 qualifying campaign, sweeping aside the Faroe Islands 6-0 on Friday evening in Klaksvík. Goals from Wilson Odobert, Dayann Methalie, Mathys Tel, and Ayyoub Bouaddi underlined a dominant performance from Gérald Baticle’s young side.
The tone was set early when Tottenham winger Odobert opened the scoring after 13 minutes, finishing a clever cut-back from Lille midfielder Bouaddi. Just nine minutes later, Toulouse’s Dayann Methalie – making his first start for the Bleuets – marked the occasion in style with a crisp strike from the edge of the area to double the advantage.
The Faroe Islands briefly threatened to reduce the deficit when they were awarded a penalty on the half-hour mark, but Guillaume Restes (Toulouse FC) stood tall to make a superb double save. Moments later, France captain Mathys Tel (Bayern Munich) converted a spot-kick of his own after a foul on Bahoya to send the visitors into the break three goals to the good.
After the interval, the Bleuets maintained their intensity. Odobert added his second of the evening with a deflected effort (50’), before Methalie also completed his brace with a precise low drive into the far corner (57’). Bouaddi rounded off the scoring midway through the second half, tucking home a composed finish from a Lesley Ugochukwu–Kumbedi move down the right.
There was also a first cap for Rennes forward Mohamed Kader Méïté, who replaced Bahoya in the final quarter of an hour – the teenager turning 18 the following day.
