It was a superb week in Europe for French clubs, who recorded five wins, one draw, and just one defeat. In the Champions League, both Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique de Marseille claimed statement victories — against Ajax (4-0) and Barcelona (2-1) respectively — while AS Monaco fought back to draw 2-2 with Manchester City, meaning all three French representatives remained unbeaten in this week’s European action.
STAT: AS Monaco have lost just once in their last 14 home games at the Stade Louis-II in 2025.
On Thursday, despite OGC Nice falling to Fenerbahçe, both LOSC Lille (1-0 vs AS Roma) and Olympique Lyonnais (2-0 vs Salzburg) continued their perfect starts in the UEFA Europa League, each securing back-to-back wins for the first time ever for French clubs in the competition. Meanwhile, RC Strasbourg Alsace began their Europa Conference League campaign with a strong 2-1 victory away at Slovan Bratislava.
France have now collected four victories in the Europa League group stage after just six matches (two defeats) — equalling their total tally from last season after sixteen games (4 wins, 6 draws, 6 defeats)!
Across all three European competitions, French clubs have registered eight wins since the start of the group stages — the second-best total of any country, behind only England (10).
Several landmark achievements highlighted the week: PSG became the first French club ever to win three consecutive matches at Barcelona, while LOSC Lille earned a historic victory away to AS Roma — the first by a French side at the Stadio Olimpico in seven meetings. That win was sealed thanks to goalkeeper Ozer, who pulled off a remarkable feat by saving three retaken penalties.
