If you didn't have a chance to watch any of the matches, no worries; here's a recap to get you all caught up on how players from France's top flight performed on the first matchday.
Toulouse FC defender Mark McKenzie came off the bench for Mauricio Pochettino and his team against Trinidad and Tobago. McKenzie went into the contest in the 74th minute, playing 16 minutes as he recorded two clearances and one shot blocked in the impressive win by the United States. The 26-year-old and his teammates will face Saudi Arabia, who are an invitee to the tournament, on Matchday 2.
Angers SCO's Carlens Arcus played all 90 minutes for Haiti in their tightly contested loss to Saudi Arabia. The right-back recorded four tackles, two clearances, and one interception, but it wasn't enough to help Haiti record a clean sheet. Saudi Arabia scored the lone goal in the contest in the 21st minute via a penalty kick, and it would prove to be the game-winner. Arcus and his teammates will face Trinidad and Tobago on Matchday 2 as they eye a bounce-back performance.
Olympique de Marseille's Michael Amir Murillo played all 90 minutes in Panama's five-goal performance. Murillo also recorded an assist on the second goal scored by Panama as they recorded three goals in the first 17 minutes. After a convincing win over Guadeloupe, Panama will face Guatemala, who are coming off an impressive over Jamaica, on Matchday 2.
It was another goal-scoring fest in the Gold Cup as Canada hung six goals on Honduras. Ismaël Koné, who spent the final months of the 2024-25 season on loan at Stade Rennais from Olympique de Marseille, was on the bench for Canada but didn't feature in the match. LOSC Lille striker Jonathan David served as captain for the Canadians, playing 63 minutes and recording an assist on the opening goal scored by Canada.
