France U20 qualified for the final of the Tournoi Maurice Revello after a fine display against Mexico, as Nantes pair Louis Leroux & Dehmaine Tabibou got on the scoresheet with Steve Ngoura to book their spot in Sunday's final.
The Mexicans had dominated the early proceedings in Salon De Provence, determined to stave the ball away from the tournament hosts, creating some early chances after some great build-up and some clever set-pieces. They would come to regret those missed chances early on.
Louis Leroux would open the scoring for Les Bleuets against the run of play, as Tidiam Gomis found Lucas Michel precisely on the edge of the box. The AS Monaco man mis-hit his strike on goal but it managed to fall at the feet of Louis Leroux, who rounded the keeper calmly and finished into an open net (14').
Just after the beginning of the second period, Mexico managed to get themselves right back into the semi-final affair, with a well-worked free-kick resulting in a header across goal for centreback Karol Jaziel Velázquez Mendoza to nod into the back of the net (47'). Les Bleuets would be living life on the edge, as Mexico had a goal ruled out for offside only minutes later.
Aladji Bamba was introduced by Bernard Diomède on the hour mark, and his first contribution to the game was to play through ball to Steve Ngoura - and it was a lovely bit of skill to flick the ball past two Mexican defenders and stab home to put France back in front (67'). The Cercle Bruges man grabbed his second goal of the tournament in the finest of fashion.
With the final minutes of the game passing by, FC Nantes man and substitute Dehmaine Tabibou would provide the final blow. César Garza would make a foul on the edge of the box, and gave Tabibou the right angle to step up and launch a wicked curled effort up and over the wall and into the back of the net to seal the result, and France's spot in Sunday's final (89').
The final will be held once again in Salon-de-Provence, where France will face Saudi Arabia.
