A handful of players in this match have a connection to Ligue 1, starting with the opening goal scorer, Adam Buksa. The RC Lens forward, who spent last season on loan to Turkish side Antalyaspor, scored in the 16th minute to give Poland a 1-0 lead.
Lens had another player starting for the Polish squad as Przemysław Frankowski featured in the initial 11 for manager Michał Probierz. The 29-year-old played all 90 minutes in Poland’s first match at Euro 2024.
Despite taking the early lead, it would be the Netherlands who would leave with all three points after scoring two unanswered goals for a 2-1 win. Paris Saint-Germain’s Xavi Simons, who spent last season on loan at RB Leipzig, played 62 minutes.
Former OGC Nice goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel played between the pipes for Denmark, making one save as the Danish side took a 1-0 lead after a goal from Manchester United’s Christian Eriksen. Former LOSC Lille defender Simon Kjær didn’t feature in the match as the veteran standout remained on the bench.
Even though Slovenia conceded the early goal, the squad responded with an equalizing goal in the second half, courtesy of a strike from Erik Janža. Matjaž Kek and his team would leave the match with a 1-1 draw, and the Slovenian player with ties to French football, Miha Blažič, who played for Angers SCO, didn’t feature in the match.
Former Stade de Reims goalkeeper Predrag Rajković started in goal for Serbia. The 28-year-old kept England’s attack at bay by making two saves in the match and the only shot that beat him was a header from Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham.
Strahinja Pavlović, who played for AS Monaco, also featured on defense for the Serbian side as the unit only gave up five total shots to Gareth Southgate and his team over the 90 minutes. England secured a 1-0 win over Serbia and leave with all three points in a tightly contested match.
