Before arriving to join Marseille, Sánchez was already a well-traveled player. In South America, the forward played for major clubs like Colo-Colo in Chile and River Plate in Argentina. Once his career in Europe began to take shape, he played forseveral prominent clubs.

From 2011 to 2014, Sánchez played for FC Barcelona, making 141 appearances for the Spanish club while scoring 46 goals and registering 37 assists. The Chilean also won six trophies with Barcelona, including the FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, two Supercopa de Españas, the Copa del Rey, and a La Liga title.

After four years with Barcelona, Sánchez moved to Arsenal in 2014, making 166 appearances, scoring 80 goals and recording 43 assists while winning two FA Cups and an FA Community Shield.

Following five years with the Gunners, the winger spent three years at Manchester United and would leave Premier League football in 2020 to play in Italy. Sánchez arrived at Inter Milan on loan for the 2019-20 season but would remain permanently with the Serie A team until 2022.

Sánchez had played in England, Italy, and Spain, but in August 2022, he signed with OM to play for the first time in France's top flight. The veteran made 44 appearances while scoring 18 goals and registering three assists during the 2022-23 season.

After one season Sánchez left Marseille last year but noted that he's keeping that experience close to his heart in an Instagram post stating goodbye to the supporters.

"For Marseille and its people, I only have words of gratitude—to the directors, medical team, kitchen staff, and everyone who works at the club. Thank you to my teammates with whom I shared very beautiful moments."

"Thank you for putting up with me and sorry for pushing you in every match and training session, hahaha. And very especially to all the people of Marseille, who always showed their support and affection in good times and bad. That is something very beautiful."

Along with his success at the club level, Sánchez has won two major trophies with the Chilean national team, winning back-to-back Copa América trophies. Chile will be in Group A for this year's edition of the tournament alongside Argentina, Canada, and Peru.
