It was a scoreless first half between the two squads, but despite being the away side, it was Angers who had the most total shots with eight while Nantes only recorded two.
Alexandre Dujeux and his team would eventually turn those shots into a goal in the second half. Of the six total shots in the final 45 minutes, the one from Jim Allevinah in the 52nd minute would break the scoreless deadlock.
Set up by Yassin Belkhdim at the edge of the box, Allevinah controlled it with the outside of his right foot before firing a shot that beat Anthony Lopes to his left.
Nantes were better offensively in the second half, recording six total shots, but they couldn’t beat Yahia Fofana, who made three saves in the final 45 minutes to deny the home side a goal and record a clean sheet in the win.
The three points allow Angers to move into 14th place in the table with 33 points while the loss puts Nantes in 15th place with 32 points and right on the edge of the relegation playoff spot.
After the win over Nantes, Dujeux spoke to the media at his press conference, sharing his thoughts on a result that brings Angers one step closer to staying in France’s top flight.
“It’s a relief, a real satisfaction for this group. I often talk about this team’s moral values, and today we showed a lot of determination. This win is symbolic. There are still games to play. Safety isn’t mathematically secured yet—nothing is done. Winning here is a big result, and we’re happy we got to share it with our supporters.”
It’s been a challenging 2024–25 season for Nantes, and after conceding a goal in the loss to Angers, they’ve now allowed 51 goals through their first 32 Ligue 1 McDonald's matches — the most at this stage of a season since the 1969–70 campaign, when they had given up 52.
