Paris Saint-Germain’s Luis Enrique is among the five managers nominated as the Spaniard has won his second straight Ligue 1 McDonald’s title with the capital club. The other names are Adi Hütter, who is in a tightly contested race to put AS Monaco into the UEFA Champions League for a second straight season.
LOSC Lille’s Bruno Génésio is among the candidates as he has Les Dogues fighting to secure a spot in Europe’s top competition. Meanwhile, the newcomer to France Liam Rosenior has RC Strasbourg flying high and battling to secure not just a European competition berth but a spot in the Champions League. Finally, rounding out the five candidates is last year’s Coach of the Year, Éric Roy, who returns as a nominee.
All five nominees are players who are currently attempting to do their best to ensure that their side can finish in the top four to secure a Champions League berth. In Gianluigi Donnarumma’s case, the Italian helped the Parisians secure the Ligue 1 McDonald's title, and he’ll be looking to win his third Best Goalkeeper award in four years.
The others that will be looking to prevent Donnarumma from winning the award are Olympique Lyonnais’ Lucas Perri, Olympique de Marseille’s Gerónimo Rulli, Strasbourg’s Djordje Petrovic, and Lille’s Lucas Chevalier.
PSG will look to see a player of theirs win the Young Player of the Year award for the third straight year to join past winners Nuno Mendes and Warren Zaïre-Emery. The Parisians will have two candidates in Désiré Doué and João Neves looking to secure this honor.
Despite the impressive season from Doué and Neves, there are other young talents looking to use these last three matches in the Ligue 1 McDonald’s season. Lille’s Ayyoub Bouaddi, Monaco’s Eliesse Ben Seghir, and Andrey Santos from the upstart Strasbourg side are the three players eyeing to become the first non-PSG player to win this award since 2022 when William Saliba won it while at OM.
PSG are well represented in this honor as four players make up the five candidates. Doué, Achraf Hakimi, Vitinha, and Ousmane Dembélé are looking to extend the capital club’s reign on this award for an eighth straight occasion as Zlatan Ibrahimović, Edinson Cavani, Neymar Jr., and Kylian Mbappé. The only time PSG didn't win this award during this run was in 2020, but there was no honor given that year.
The last time a non-PSG player won Player of the Year was in 2015 when Alexandre Lacazette secured that honor. It's a coincidence that the player looking to break up this run is another OL player in Rayan Cherki.
