Ligue 2 Review #27: All eyes were fixed on the capital last weekend as the top two faced off in a dramatic affair between Paris FC and FC Lorient. Elsewhere it was goals galore up and down Ligue 2 BKT.

It was finally time for the highly anticipated clash between Ligue 2 BKT's top two contenders, which could finally go a long way to deciding promotion, and of course who will be crowned Champion at the end of the season. It was an entertaining spectacle at Stade Charléty between Paris FC and FC Lorient, with the hosts coming out as 3-2 winners.

Les Parisiens opened the scoring thanks to Mathieu Cafaro's flicked header from Nuah Dicko's cross (12') before the Lorientais had an opportunity to level proceedings from a penalty after Eli Junior Kroupi was brought down in the. Sambou Soumano then stepped up to dispatch (25'). Then it was time for Jean-Phillipe Krasso to shine as both teams went blow for blow in an action-packed first half. The Ivorian rose well to powerfully head in Cafaro's deflected cross (35'), before getting on the scoresheet again only minutes later as Dicko's shot struck the post and Krasso was able to tap home on the rebound (38').

If there was a clear advantage for Les Parisiens in the first half, Les Merlus would get back into the game thanks to another penalty, and this time it was Eli Junior Kroupi who stepped up to convert and make life difficult in the final 20 minutes (71'). Yet, Paris FC would hold on to the lead and seal a three points which has put them joint-top with Lorient.

Elsewhere in the race for promotion there were not just one but two 5-1 results. Metz steamrolled play-off contenders Annecy on Friday evening to keep two points behind the joint-leaders at the top of the Ligue 2 BKT table. But it was a disaster in Dunkerque, as Les Maritimes fell 1-5 to a Rodez side that needed to win to get out of trouble at the bottom end of the table. USLD do however stay fourth, and two points behind Metz.

In the battle to stay up, all of the bottom four came away with losses - with Caen's hopes of a magical great escape dwindling in the process. Clermont lost their third game in a row at Guingamp, whilst Red Star sealed a second consecutive home win to earn some breathing space and move up to 12th place.
