Prolific LePaul on target again

Angers did well to beat second-tier Quevilly-Rouen in the Coupe de France in the week, but would face a far sterner challenge in the form of Auxerre on Sunday afternoon. Le SCO entered the match in excellent form, having pulled out of the relegation zone and progressed in the Coupe de France as a result of four straight wins. Auxerre, however, would present a far more difficult task, with Christophe Pélissier's side known for their gritty well-organized play.

However, the form table showed a different story -- Auxerre entered the match winless in six, and that run would continue in the match's early going as Sinaly Diomandé score a spectacular own goal moments before fellow defender Gabriel Osho was sent off for a last-man foul on Esteban LePaul. After the break, it was the in-form striker would add to his impressive run of scoring doubling the lead, tucking home a neat near-post finish just after the break to secure the final 2-0 margin. With the win, Angers move up to 12th place, level on points with the eastern side ahead of a trip to Lens, while Auxerre host Saint-Étienne.

Le Havre end winless run in Reims

In the day's other match, Le Havre snapped a long winless run with a surprising point in Reims. The Champagne side had won each of their previous ten meetings at the Stade Auguste-Delaune, but it wasn't to be in this encounter. Despite Marshall Munetsi giving the hosts the lead just before the half hour, Le Havre showed plenty of character to level the match, though, with Arouna Sanganté heading his team level at a midway through the second half.

Reims would have a chance to snatch a win late on, but Mathieu Gorgelin made a fine save to keep out Munetsi near full time. While the result doesn't pull Le Havre out of the bottom three, it does edge them closer ahead of a match against Brest next weekend, while Reims have a more daunting task in the form of a trip to Paris on Saturday.

The stat: 5

Esteban LePaul has scored five goals for Angers in 2025 -- no player for a club in one of Europe's top five leagues has more.
