Back in 2015, Monaco completed a stunning aggregate win over Arsenal in the last 16 of the Champions League to reach the quarter-finals in style. Les Monégasques faced their former manager Arsène Wenger, with goals from Geoffroy Kondogbia, Dimitar Berbatov, and Yannick Carrasco enough to take a decent lead to Stade Louis II. It was a historic result in the end which eventually saw the Principality side reach the quarter-finals for the first time since they reached the final in the 2003-2004 season.
One of the banners in the away end housing the monégasques thanked Arsène Wenger for turning Monaco into an “impassable rock”, but it was Leonardo Jardim's Monaco outfit that managed to get ahead thanks to Geoffroy Kondogbia's deflected shot from 25-yards.
Olivier Giroud then had several chances for Arsenal to get back into the game, but the away side would get the better of the English hosts in the second half. It was then time for former Tottenham and Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov to get in on the act, thumping a finish high past David Opsina after being set-up by Anthony Martial.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain managed to curl in a goal from 20-yards to give some hope to the gunners in the second half. Yet, Yannick Carrasco raced clear to beat Ospina and score his first Champions League goal in stoppage time.
The return leg at the Stade Louis II saw the Gunners go two-nil up, but Les Monégasques held on to qualify via the 'away goals' rule and secure a historic qualification to the quarter final stage of the UEFA Champions League.
