Olympique de Marseille will be looking for a bounce-back performance after losing last weekend to RC Strasbourg. Roberto De Zerbi and his team will welcome Angers SCO to the Stade Vélodrome to kick off the final set of Ligue 1 matches before the FIFA international break.
Marseille have been one of the top teams this 2024-25 season, currently third in the Ligue 1 table with 13 points behind AS Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain, who have 16 points.
The home side will look to secure a win to stay on par with Monaco and PSG. On Thursday, De Zerbi spoke about the squad's mood this week as they prepared for this contest against Angers SCO.
"It’s been a tough week like every week after a defeat. We are in a rebuilding phase. We started the season well. We had two very different matches in Lyon and Strasbourg. We need to go through this rebuilding phase, and that includes going through difficult moments."
On the other hand, Angers need to start securing three points as they're currently bottom of the table. Alexandre Dujeux and his team have yet to win a match this season, with four losses and two draws in six games.
Angers opened the season with four losses, but they have secured draws in their last two contests. As Dujeux told reporters, the next step in their improvement will be securing wins.
"We need to use this match [against OM] as a chance to improve. There was progress, but there was also a game where we didn’t perform as well, which can happen. The key is to make sure it doesn’t happen again, so the focus is on working together and pushing the team forward."
Himad Abdelli will be a crucial player for Angers as the 24-year-old has already scored twice in their six matches. As for Marseille, Luis Henrique has been one of the breakout players under De Zerbi with six goal contributions this season.
Both sides need the points for their own reasons, so it will be an exciting clash to begin another weekend of exciting Ligue 1 action.
