The Jonathan David show led LOSC Lille to a 3-0 win over Le Havre on Saturday night at Stade Océane. The Canadian recorded a hat-trick as he hits perfect form ahead of the UEFA Champions League clash against Real Madrid on Matchday 2.
Lille recorded 12 total shots in the first, leading to David recording a first-half brace as he scored in the 23rd and 35th minute, with both goals being assisted by Osame Sahraoui.
The home side struggled to mount an attack, as Le Havre only recorded one shot in the first 45 minutes. The two sides went into halftime with the visitors holding a 2-0 advantage. In the second half, the total shots were even as the two squads recorded six, but it was Lille again who found the net.
David recorded his hat-trick in after scoring in the 79th minute and he now puts himself back in the goal-leading race in Ligue 1. The 24-year-old has five goals and is one behind Paris Saint-Germain's Bradley Barcola, who leads the league in goals with six.
Bruno Génésio and his team could have added a fourth goal as they were awarded a penalty kick opportunity. Angel Gomes stepped into the box to take the shot, but Arthur Desmas made the save to deny the 24-year-old the goal.
A convincing win for LOSC would be the perfect momentum builder as they head into the matchup against Real Madrid. The Spanish side will be traveling to the Stade Pierre-Mauroy for the Wednesday night contest, and the home side has to secure a win after losing to Sporting Lisbon on Matchday 1.
The victory also puts Lille in fourth place with ten points and snaps the club's five-game winless streak across all competitions. LOSC's last win before defeating Le Havre came on August 24th when they beat Angers SCO 2-0.
Le Club Doyen will have the challenge of attempting to snap a three-match losing streak on the road. Le Havre will look for a bounce-back performance when they travel to Stade Francis Le Blé to face Brest.
