Adrien Rabiot is returning to Ligue 1 McDonald's, signing with Olympique de Marseille after spending the last six years away from France's top flight.

A storied career

The Saint-Maurice native will look to become a veteran voice on an OM squad that's off to a good start this 2024-25 season. After progressing through Paris Saint-Germain's youth academy, Rabiot debuted with the capital side's first team in 2012.

In 2013, the midfielder was loaned to Toulouse FC to gain more experience. After a short time with Les Violets, he returned to PSG and eventually made 227 appearances across all competitions.

Rabiot recorded 24 goals and 14 assists during his time in the French capital, winning six Ligue 1 titles, four Coupe de France trophies, five Coupe de la Ligue trophies, and four Trophée des Champions.

Following the 2018-19 season, Rabiot left his boyhood club and joined Juventus. He would play for the Serie A side from 2019 to 2024, making 212 appearances across all competitions while scoring 22 goals and registering 15 assists.

While playing for Juventus, Rabiot won one league title, two Coppa Italia trophies, and one Supercoppa Italiana.

During his playing career, the former PSG standout has also received call-ups to the France national team, making 48 total appearances for Les Bleus while scoring four goals. Rabiot was also part of the French squad that won the UEFA Nations League in 2021.

A warm welcome and big expectations

Upon landing in the city last night, Rabiot and his entourage were greeted by hundreds of fans, despite the warm weather, something that was not lost on the midfielder, especially given the history of rivalry between his former and new clubs. "I didn't expect that. It warms my heart, and I know my family is happy too. It makes you want to play and win. I was told that 400 to 500 people had come, it's really amazing, I didn't expect so much good humor, so much warmth.”

"It's been a bit (of a surpise) At first it seemed a little unlikely and finally talking a lot with Medhi (Benatia, an advisor to OM president Pablo Longoria), introduced me to the project, I talked to the coach too (Roberto de Zerbi). There's everything everyone knows: the atmosphere, the fervor, the stadium, a city that lives for football. The goal is to win and get back into the Champions League."
