As Olympique de Marseille and OGC Nice face-off in an early season Mediterranean Derby on Saturday, we take a look at the most memorable clashes between the two Southern rivals in recent times.

Olympique de Marseille 2-2 OGC Nice, April 2024 (Ligue 1)

One of Jean-Louis Gasset's first games in charge of OM, he had to face a Francesco Farioli side full of confidence at the Vélodrome. Terem Moffi opened the scoring for the away side (13'), but goals from Jonathan Clauss (13') and a penalty from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (56') would see the home side go ahead before the hour mark - despite going down to 10 men after Faris Moumbagna's sending off (45'+2). Melvin Bard would then equalise for Les Aiglons as the two Southern rivals shared the points in their most recent derby clash four months ago.

OGC Nice 0-3 Olympique de Marseille, August 2022 (Ligue 1)

Marseille visited the Allianz Riviera at the beginning of the 2022-2023 season and kicked off the Igor Tudor era in style with a convincing win. Alexis Sánchez opened the scoring in the 10th minute before Arsenal loanee Nuno Tavares doubled the score for the away side. Sánchez then grabbed his brace as OM would run away with the early-season derby.

Olympique de Marseille 1-3 OGC Nice, February 2023 (Ligue 1)

Les Aiglons would get their revenge that same season, as they came away from the Vélodrome with a 3-1 win thanks to goals from Sofiane Diop, Gaëtan Laborde, and Billal Brahimi. Didier Digard's side managed to halt an 11-game unbeaten run from OM, who scored in the 60th minute to try and mount a comeback in vain.

OGC Nice 2-4 Olympique de Marseille, October 2017 (Ligue 1)

Rudi Garcia's side came away with a huge 4-2 win over Nice back in 2017 in a match that had plenty of goal-mouth action. It began with Nice taking a two-goal advantage in the game via Mario Balotelli (4') and Jean-Michael Seri (16'). OM would start the fight-back with a finish via Lucas Ocampos (26'), before a Lees-Melou own goal and another finish from Ocampos (44') put Les Olympiens ahead just before the half-time whistle. OM scored another in the second half via Luiz Gustavo (48') to snatch three points from their mediterranean neighbours.

OGC Nice 4-1 Olympique de Marseille, February 2022 (Coupe de France)

It was a heated meeting between the two sides, this time in the Coupe de France quarter-final stage in a match which saw Les Aiglons come from behind to win 4-1. Christophe Galtier's Nice went behind in the 3rd minute to a Melvin Bard own goal, but then goals from Amine Gouiri, a brace from Justin Kluivert, and a final goal from Andy Delort saw the home side reach the semi-finals.
