Eric Roy's boys are back! Stade Brestois got their first win of the season in style against Saint-Étienne at home.

Brest found out their prestigious UEFA Champions League opponents this week, but with no points yet in Ligue 1 after two matches, Eric Roy's were determined to get their first win of their domestic campaign. Saint-Étienne, having lost their first two matches against Monaco and Le Havre.

Les Pirates took a two goal-lead in the first half, with former Sainté man Mahdi Camara opening the scoring in the first ten minutes. The midfielder reacted quickly to head home from close range after the ball rebounded off Chardonnet and a Saint-Étienne defender (10'). Romain Del Castillo would then confidently double the lead via the penalty spot after Jordan Amavi's cross was adjudged to be handled by Lamine Fomba (32').

A VAR check would then take place shortly before half-time for another hand-ball by ASSE midfielder Mathis Amougou, but referee Gaël Angoula waved away appeals for a spot kick. Les Verts were somewhat lucky to go into half-time only with a two goal deficit.

Three second half goals seal the deal for Brest

By the hour mark, Brest started to cede the ball to Saint-Étienne, who were needing to act quick if they were to get anything from the game. Olivier Dall'Oglio's side made a triple change, Appiah, Wadji, and Moueffek. Meanwhile, Perriera Lage was thrown on for Les Pirates.

Sainté couldn't make the post of their chances, and it would be Brest who would go three goals ahead thanks to Ludovic Ajorque's quick reactions to poke home after a horrific mistake from Larsonneur saw the ball slip right into the path of Brest's new forward to score his first goal for the club (78'). It got even better for the hosts, who grabbed another goal from the penalty spot after ASSE defender Cordu fouled Coulibaly in the box. Kenny Lala stepped up and converted confidently and put the result in no doubt (84').

THE STAT - Seven is (not quite) Heaven

Saint-Étienne currently hold a goal-difference of -7 after three Ligue 1 games, their worst performance in the top tier at this stage of the season.
