Recap: Barcola records brace in PSG’s win vs. Montpellier

Paris Saint-Germain have kicked off their 2024-25 Ligue 1 season in impressive fashion, scoring ten goals in two matches, six of which came in the 6-0 victory over Montpellier Hérault SC on Friday night at the Parc des Princes.

For the second straight contest, the Parisians found the back of the net through Bradley Barcola as he opened the scoring for the home side with a goal in the fourth minute. It didn't take long for Luis Enrique and his team to find a second goal as Marco Asensio scored in the 24th minute to give PSG a 2-0 advantage.

João Neves didn't score in the first half, but the newcomer provided the assist on the goals scored by Barcola and Asensio. After scoring two goals in the first 45 minutes, the goals kept coming for PSG in the second half.

Barcola scored early in the first half and he did so again in the second half as the 21-year-old's goal in the 53rd minute made the score 3-0. Achraf Hakimi found the back of the net five minutes later to give the capital club a 4-0 lead.

Then, two minutes later, Warren Zaïre-Emery chipped in to continue the goal-scoring fest as the teenager had an impressive goal to give a 5-0 advantage. PSG's scoring took a break, but Kang-in Lee came off the bench and scored in the 82nd minute for his second goal of the Ligue 1 season as the strike made it 6-0 PSG.

After conceding one goal in their 1-1 draw against RC Strasbourg last weekend, it was a challenging night for Montpellier. Michel Der Zakarian and his team will need to put this loss behind them and look for a rebound performance when they host FC Nantes on August 31 at Stade de la Mosson.

PSG's attack will look to continue this impressive start as they look to score four or more goals for a third straight match. The reigning Ligue 1 champions will travel to Stade Pierre-Mauroy for a matchup against LOSC Lille on September 1.
