Takumi Minamino and AS Monaco got off to a winning start against Cercle Brugge -- Les Monégasques were one of eight clubs in action this weekend -- catch up on the latest in our review
The Bretons got their season off to a strong start with a win over third-tier Concarneau, but it wasn't a match without some nerves. The amateurs struck first, just before the break, but Brest would eventually pull out the win thanks to second-half goals from Hamidou Makalou and Romain Del Castillo.
Facing their sister club at their training ground, the Principality side were handed an easy start after Cercle had a man sent off before the half-hour mark. Despite that, Les Monégasques would need an own goal to record a victory ahead of their training camp in England.

Despite losing key attackers like Jonathan David and Rémy Cabella in the offseason, Les Dogues wasted no time in demolishing second-tier Amiens, scoring four times inside the first thirty-minute half. Haakon Haraldsson and Nabil Bentaleb each had doubles for LOSC.
A brace for Mostafa Mohamed -- once from the penalty spot and once from a clever late run -- was all Les Canaris needed to get their preseason off on the right foot under new manager Luis Castro, while Patrik Carlgren and Anthony Lopes split the clean sheet.
The first match of the Pierre Sage era in Lens was a draw with Martín Satriano and Godine Koyalipou finding the net. Coming back from two goals down, Le Sang et Or showed good character in getting a result against one of Belgium's better sides.
There was little respite for Cercle, as they returned to action the next day against a Nice side preparing for the Champions League. A brace by Badredine Bouanani made the difference for Les Aiglons, who fielded a strong eleven.
Two other matches also took place involving Ligue 1 teams: Promoted Lorient beat third-tier FC Fleury 5-1, while Toulouse FC were held to a scoreless draw against Pau FC.
