Amine Gouiri's strike against Brest was George Boxall's pick for Goal of the Season

The Ligue 1 McDonald's editorial team -- George Boxall, Eric Devin and Eduardo Razo -- have picked their favorites for the 2024/25 season in seven categories. Learn who the experts have picked in our latest series, continuing with our honorees for Goal of the Year.

George Boxall: Amine Gouiri vs Stade Brestois

It was voted as the UNFP goal of the season, so it would be rude not to pick the outrageous overhead kick scored by Marseille's Amine Gouiri against Stade Brestois. The Algerian international latched onto Mason Greenwood's delayed cross, before setting himself up with a flick up to his chest, before acrobatically striking the ball into the back of the net with an overhead kick.

“Honestly, I think the bicycle kick is one of the greatest goals of my career. It’s all about control. I lift the ball and then, instinctively, I try the bicycle kick, and it goes in," said Gouiri following the game, still in disbelief that he scored the goal of the season.

Eduardo Razo: Matthis Abline vs Paris Saint-Germain

It was a solo effort for Matthis Abline when he scored against PSG last November. The Frenchman received the pass in the final third and proceeded to turn Willian Pacho, one of the top defenders of the Ligue 1 season, inside out. He then followed it up by beating Gianluigi Donnarumma for an impressive goal at Parc des Princes.

Eric Devin: Maghnes Akliouche vs Stade Rennais

Surpassing veteran players like Takumi Minamino and Aleksandr Golovin, young Frenchman Maghnes Akliouche was quietly one of the Monégasques' most potent attacking threats this season, providing ten assists for the likes of Mika Biereth, Breel Embolo and more as the Principality side finished third and secured a place in the Champions League. While those ten assists were impressive, Akliouche also found the net five times in Ligue 1 McDonald's, none more impressive than against the Bretons in a crucial late-season match, as he lashed home a stunning overhead kick.
