Discover the records and honors of the all-time top scorers in Ligue 1 McDonald’s.
The most recent top scorer, Ousmane Dembélé (Paris Saint-Germain, 21 goals), added his name to a prestigious list. He helped PSG continue their impressive streak, making it 10 consecutive seasons with a top scorer from the club. He follows in the footsteps of a player who left an indelible mark on the league.
Indeed, in the 2023-24 season, Kylian Mbappé (PSG, 27 goals) further cemented his place in Ligue 1 McDonald’s history by becoming the first player to win six top scorer titles in the top flight. A league-leading scorer for six straight seasons (from 2019 to 2024), the Parisian forward confirmed his status as one of the greatest scorers in the history of the competition.
It’s a long and rich history filled with repeat winners and a few rare newcomers. Only seven players have claimed the top scorer title in their first season in France’s top flight—excluding the duo of Walter Kaiser (Stade Rennais) and Robert Mercier (Club Français), who shared the title during the league's inaugural 1932/33 season.
The next two campaigns also saw newcomers take the crown: István Lukács (Sète, 1933-34) and André Abegglen (Sochaux, 1934-35). Later, René Bihel (Lille, 1945-46) and Roger Piantoni (FC Nancy, 1950-51) were the only French players to achieve this, before Argentine striker Carlos Bianchi claimed the first of his five titles in 1973/74.
Another foreigner, German striker Erwin Kostedde (Stade Lavallois), shared the top spot with Delio Onnis in 1979/80. The last player to finish top scorer in his first Ligue 1 McDonald’s season was Zlatan Ibrahimović during the 2012/13 campaign.
In Ligue 1 McDonald’s history, only one player has won the top scorer title six times. A prodigy from a young age, Mbappé started his streak in 2019 at just 20 years old and ended it in 2023/24. That’s a staggering six trophies in six seasons.
Behind him, three players each claimed the top scorer title five times. The first to do so was Carlos Bianchi, who won five titles in six seasons (1973-74 to 1978/79), edging out his Argentine compatriot Delio Onnis, who needed ten seasons to collect five (1974-75 to 1983-84). A few years later, Jean-Pierre Papin became the first player to win five consecutive top scorer titles. With Olympique de Marseille, the Frenchman led the league in goals from 1988 to 1992.

PSG, whose first title came in 1977-78 via Bianchi, have now claimed the past 10 top scorer honors and 12 of the last 13, with contributions from Ibrahimović, Cavani, Mbappé, and Dembélé.
