Rayan Cherki finished as the Top Assist Provider of the 2024/25 season with Olympique Lyonnais.

The official assists ranking was introduced in Ligue 1 McDonald’s during the 2007/2008 season. Since then, 18 trophies have been awarded to the player with the most assists at the end of each campaign. Rayan Cherki is the most recent winner, becoming the second Lyon player to claim the award after Memphis Depay (2021).

Ligue 1 McDonald’s Assist Records

Since 2008, eight clubs have produced a winner of the Top Assist award. One additional club, Montpellier HSC, is linked to the 2016/17 title through Morgan Sanson, who played the first half of the season there.

  • Paris Saint-Germain leads the way with six titles (Di Maria x2, Neymar, Mbappé, Messi, O. Dembélé),

  • followed by Olympique de Marseille with four trophies (Lucho Gonzalez, Valbuena, Payet, Sanson).

  • LOSC (Bastos, Hazard) and OL (Depay, Cherki) follow with two each,

  • while FC Sochaux-Montbéliard (Martin), Stade Rennais FC (Leroy), AS Monaco (James Rodriguez) and Nîmes Olympique (Savanier) each appear once in the honours list.

The record for most assists in a single season is 18, set by Angel Di Maria (PSG) in 2015/16, a campaign where the Argentine also recorded 16 open-play assists, still a benchmark. Kylian Mbappé (PSG) matched the latter figure in 2021/22.

The title has been decided by open-play assists – the primary tiebreaker – on four occasions:

  • 2008: Jérôme Leroy edged Samir Nasri (OM),

  • 2013: Mathieu Valbuena beat Dimitri Payet,

  • 2018: Neymar edged out Payet again,

  • 2024: Ousmane Dembélé topped Angel Gomes and Romain Del Castillo.

Memphis Depay, Record-Holder for Most Assists in a Single Match

Since 2007/08, only one player has delivered four assists in a single match: Memphis Depay (OL), on April 8, 2018, against Metz.

Many players have recorded hat-tricks of assists. With PSG, Lionel Messi made history as the first ever to achieve two assist hat-tricks in a single season (vs Saint-Étienne and Clermont, 2021/22). Neymar matched this feat in 2022/23 (vs Clermont and Lille).

The youngest player to register an assist hat-trick since the creation of the ranking is Bradley Barcola, who did so aged 20 with OL during the 2022/23 season (vs Montpellier).
