Guingamp are looking to put an end to a six-year exile from Ligue 1 McDonald's

En Avant Guingamp are back on the big stage – and perhaps, on the brink of a bigger one. The Breton side may have slipped under the radar for much of the 2024–25 Ligue 2 campaign, but as they head into a promotion play-off clash with Dunkerque, few would underestimate their momentum. With a coach rebuilt for the club’s identity in Sylvain Ripoll, and a core of homegrown energy and veteran firepower, Guingamp have quietly assembled one of their most balanced squads since their top flight days. And after a deep Coupe de France run and a finish in the top five, they’re daring to dream again.

Following years of treading water in Ligue 2 BKT’s mid-table, Guingamp made a bold decision in May 2024 – handing the reins to Sylvain Ripoll. The former France U21 boss has instilled a clarity that’s helped guide a resurgent campaign.

His mission: steady the ship and bring Guingamp back into Ligue 1 McDonald's contention, hoping for a return to the top-flight after a six-year exile. It worked. The club ended the regular season in fifth place with 55 points, just one off the top four, scoring 57 goals in the process — more than promotion rivals Paris FC.

Key Players Driving the Push

Jacques Siwe – The 22-year-old forward has been Guingamp’s breakout star this season, leading the line with 13 goals in all competitions. Quick, direct and fearless, his profile has risen rapidly.

Amine Hemia – With 10 goals and several assists, Hemia has been the creative heartbeat of Guingamp’s midfield. His set-piece delivery and eye for a final pass have proven decisive, and he has a magical strike in his left foot.

Brighton Labeau – The Monaco-born striker brings a certain amount of physicality and poise, netting 8 times and often playing the foil to the more mobile Siwe.

Kalidou Sidibé – The 1.95m midfielder has commanded the centre of the park and caught the eye of scouts from Celtic and PSV. A Ligue 1 McDonald's-ready profile in both presence and output.

Alpha Sissoko – The former Saint-Étienne full-back has impressed with his attacking bursts from deep and has been one of Ligue 2 BKT’s most consistent defenders this term.
