Stade Rennais aren’t strangers to producing world-class talent from within its youth system, such as Ousmane Dembélé, Eduardo Camavinga, and Désiré Doué, to name a few. Now, there’s another young player to keep an eye on who is cracking the first team, Mohamed Kader Meïté.

Mohamed Kader Meïté: Rennes’ Latest Promising Young Talent

Meïté made his presence known to Ligue 1 McDonald’s fans when he scored the eventual game-winning goal last Friday against FC Nantes in the latest Breton Derby.

The goal from Meïté will be the first of many as the 17-year-old signed a long-term contract last November to continue his development with Rennes and follow in the footsteps of other top young talents to come through the club’s academy.

Before scoring his heroic goal last week and joining Rennes, Meïté came up through the youth systems of several French clubs, including CA Paris 14, Paris Alésia FC, US Villejuif, and Montrouge FC 92.

He made his debut with the Rennes reserves in the Championnat National 3 in 2024, and since then, Meïté has risen to the first team. The next phase of his growth will be sticking with the senior squad because the teenager will have the opportunity to show that he belongs with this group.

Rennes manager Habib Beye recently spoke to DAZN and noted what it means to play young talent like Meïté, noting that it’s in the club’s DNA to give these players a chance to show that they belong regardless of their age.

“Betting on young players? Yes. What’s important is that when you arrive at a club, you have to understand its DNA and identity. When I got here, it was important for me to immerse myself in the DNA of this team.”

“It’s a club that has always done a great job developing its young players. It was important for us as a club to get back to that. They show qualities every day that allow me to fully trust them when they’re called upon to play.”

Rennes are 11 points clear of relegation with four games left in the 2024-25 Ligue 1 McDonald’s season, giving Meïté a chance to use these remaining matches to build confidence and prove to Beye that he’s someone to rely on heading into next season.
