Paris Saint-Germain will welcome Premier League leaders Liverpool to the Parc des Princes on Wednesday night for the first leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie.
The contest will mark the first time that the Reds are in the French capital since these two same sides clashed in 2018 during the Champions League group stage. There's also a handful of players from that match that saw PSG defeat Liverpool 2-1, with goals from Juan Bernat and Neymar Jr.
Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, and Virgil van Dijk featured in that match for Liverpool while the Parisian squad included Marquinhos and Presnel Kimpembe. In this matchup seven years later, these squads have new names that have them atop their respective leagues.
Arne Slot and his team will come into this match riding a five-match unbeaten streak (three wins and two draws). Liverpool are heading into the French capital off a 2-0 win last week against Newcastle United.
As for Luis Enrique and his team, they're riding a 10-match win streak and a 22-match unbeaten streak across all competitions. The capital club defeated LOSC Lille this past weekend thanks to four first half goals to extend their winning skid.
PSG's last loss came in November when they fell 1-0 to Bayern Munich on Matchday 5 of the Champions League's league phase. The Ligue 1 McDonald's leaders are riding on confidence, which they'll need against a quality Liverpool squad.
Ahead of the first leg, PSG manager Enrique spoke to the media on Tuesday and revealed that they'll be facing a perfect team.
"Liverpool are one of the best teams in Europe in recent years. We're going to face the team that has played the best so far in the Champions League this season. They won the Champions League recently."
"After the Jürgen Klopp era, it could have been difficult for Arne Slot to do better, but he has managed to create a perfect team that knows how to press, defend and attack."
"They know how to build a calculated attack as well as counter-attacks. They're a very complete team, but that motivates us. It's an opportunity for all of us to show that we're capable of rising to this level."
